Winter Works 2015: Innovations and Variations
March 7, 2015 at Diana Wortham Theatre, Asheville, NC
Ballet Conservatory will present Winter Works: Innovations and Variations on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 7pm at the Diana Wortham Theatre. Winter Works will be danced by Ballet Conservatory's acclaimed Pre-Professional company and includes six premiere dance works encompassing a variety of dance styles, from classical ballet to modern dance to Broadway jazz.
New York City Ballet's Amanda Edge and Billy Ward of New York City Opera Ballet will headline the evening, including an intimate duet from Broadway's “Swing”, choreographed by Tony Award Nominee Lynne Taylor-Corbett. Ms. Edge and Mr. Ward will also contribute contemporary ballet premieres inspired by winter trees, Degas' painted dancers and baroque classics.
Composer and pianist Chad Lawson will accompany “She Walk's in Beauty”, choreographed by Wayne Burritt, Ballet Conservatory's ballet master. Mr. Lawson's 2014 CD, The Chopin Variations was iTunes #1 Classical Debut, plus Billboard's #4 Classical Crossover Debut. He toured as Julio Eglesias' keyboardist and earned the review "The classical CD for people that hate classical music", from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Additional choreography by Lindsey Kelley and Alisha Ear of Ballet Conservatory's modern dance faculty will round out the evening's innovations.
Tickets for Winter Works are $15 to $22 and are available by calling Diana Wortham Theatre at (828) 257-4530 or visiting dwtheatre.com.
