The Biggest Ballets ... The Best Productions
BCA Is Home To Classical Ballet
We focus on producing two large-scale classical ballets each year: The Nutcracker in December and a Spring Ballet. We typically select ballets from the Russian tradition. These ballets -- which include such as Giselle, Nutcracker, and Coppelia to name but a few -- provide excellent training vehicles for our students. By dancing in these ballets, our students bring to life the ballet technique they practice each day in class. This classical connection between the classroom and the stage offers them an unparalleled insight into why they are doing what they are doing. In addition, they get to experience some of the most beautiful and moving ballets ever produced for the stage.
We produce our ballets at Asheville's Diana Wortham Theatre, widely considered to be one of the finest dance venues in the U.S. It's 600 seat capacity provides our audiences with an intimate ballet experience while offering our choreographers, costumers, and technicians unmatched backstage and front-of-house capabilities. We make every effort to keep our ticket prices as low as possible.
Our Recital
At the end of the school year, we produce an informal recital at the Diana Wortham Theatre. This gives our children's classes, teen/adult classes, and classes not performing in the Spring ballet a chance to take the stage. Audiences have an opportunity to see the progress of these dancers as well as experience the other forms of dance we teach, including jazz, broadway jazz, tap, and hip-hop.
Spring Recital 2013 Info

Diana Wortham Theatre
The week of May 13-18, we will invite parents to bring cameras into the beginning of class to take a class Recital photo. This is to ensure you get a good photo as there are no photos during the performance.
After the recital we’ll have one more week of class through Saturday May 25th to finish our semester.
Please see the Recital order for performance times for each student’s class.
On Recital day: Students and families are to arrive no earlier than ½ hour before their performance time. Come straight to the auditorium through the main doors (not stage door) and we will receive the students on stage. Please no parents back stage and make sure your young dancer has gone to the bathroom before coming in!! Pre-ballet students (pink leotards) can sit with parents until we are ready to start. We will reserve the first four rows for Pre-ballet families only. After the pre-ballet student dance, they will rejoin their parents in the audience to watch the other students. Each Recital runs approximately 1 hour.
Ballet Student will need to arrive in their class leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes and hair in a bun (if hair is too short, tied back as best as possible). All belongings can be left with parents in the auditorium. Tutus will be handed out back stage and returned after the dance. Boys, White tee shirt, black tights/shorts, black ballet shoes. Check with your teacher. Jazz/Modern/Tap/Hip-hop students arrive in dance clothes, your teachers will have accessories. If you are in multiple dances you can bring your change of shoes/dancewear back stage to the green room. Pre-professional Adv/Int dancers can have the downstairs dressing rooms and PPB upstairs.
At the end of the Recital all Ballet 1 and Ballet 2 students (Light blue leotard) can meet parents at the front of the stage and Ballet 3, 4 (Burgundy leotard) and older students can be picked up at the side door in the lobby. When in the lobby facing the auditorium doors, the side door is far right by the bathrooms.
We will need to clear the auditorium as quickly as possible because we will have another recital following straight afterwards. Thank you.
We do ask that there are no photos or videos taken during the performance. This can be dangerous to the dancers and can be distracting to fellow audience members.
There will however be a DVD of the performance available for just $15 bought in advance or $20 on day of show.
Flowers will also be available to buy in the lobby.
Make sure to pick up your 2 tickets to the recital from the front desk this week.
These tickets are only available at the studio. Additional tickets are just $5.
BCA will hold its 2013 student recital at the Diana Wortham Theatre Sunday, May 19, 2013. Showtimes are 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to see out talented young dancers perform.
