Our classes for children 3 and up include ballet, pointe, modern, tap, broadway jazz, & hip-hop. Our talented young dancers often perform in the Nutcracker and Spring ballets. Children with a serious interest in ballet may want to learn more our Beginner Pre-Professional program.
Boys Program
Ballet Conservatory of Asheville -- Boys Program
BCA offers boys ages 7 and up a robust program of dance. Our experience has shown that well-trained boys are often offered full scholarships to many of the finest summer intensive programs. Boys also play important roles in many of BCA's ballets, especially the Nutcracker.
Teens + Adults

Our teens enjoy classes in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. These classes are open to anyone and include beginner and intermediate level dancers.

Karin Averty (POB, SFB) to Teach Master Classes March 17 to 19!

BCA is thrilled to welcome back Karin Averty, formerly of the Paris Opera Ballet and San Francisco Ballet, and currently teaching at STEPS on Broadway. Karin will teach Master classes on March 17 to 19, 2016. We are very excited to have Karin with us again! Details coming soon.

About Karin Averty

Karin is currently teaching at STEPS on Broadway in NYC. Karin joined the Paris Opera Ballet School in 1973 and became a member of the Paris Opera Ballet in 1979. She was quickly recognized internationally when she received the Varna Grand Prix (in the youth category) in 1980 at the International Ballet Competition in Bulgaria. During the Paris Opera Ballet Competition, she was promoted Premiere Danseuse in 1983. In 1986, the AROP Paris Opera Ballet Association awarded her the Prix du Public. From 1984 to 2005 she interpreted principal roles of the classical repertory (Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Bayadere, Don Quixote, Coppelia, la Fille mal Gardee, Romeo and Juliette, Etudes…) and new works from guest choreographers invited to the Paris Opera Ballet (William Forsythe, Odile Duboc, John Neumeier…) but also choreography by Lifar, Balanchine, Robbins, Tudor, MacMillan, Graham, Taylor, Tharp, Kudelka …) In 1987 she was invited to be a Principal Dancer with the San Francisco Ballet during a leave of absence from the Paris Opera Ballet. In 1988 she became Guest Principal Artist with the San Francisco Ballet and the following year was part of the San Francisco Ballet’s French tour at the Champs-Elysees Theater. In 2003 she obtained her Diplôme d’Etat in Ballet (official French teaching diploma). Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Prime Minister of France, honored her with the National Merit Order as a Chevalier in 2004. As a final good-bye to the Paris Opera Ballet, and for the first time in her career, she interpreted the role of Juliet in Nureyev’s choreography Romeo and Juliet at the Bastille Opera on July 9, 2005. Karin pursued her career as a guest artist. In February 2009 she made her final appearance in Japan performing « Les Biches » Nijinska’s choreography with the NBA Ballet Company to celebrate Serge de Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes 100 years. Since then Karin is a freelance Ballet instructor and coach for Ballet Companies and Schools throughout the world. She has been invited in France, Korea, Japan, Canada, Israel, and the USA.

BCA's Summer Intensive 2016!

Ballet Conservatory of Asheville will hold its SEVENTH ballet intensive June 20 to July 16,2016! The intensive is geared toward talented dancers ages 10 and up with a serious interest in ballet. Daily classes include intense, professional instruction in ballet, pointe, variations, partnering, men's class, modern, jazz, pilates, and special projects. Auditions are Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 or by DVD. Room & Board available. Former Guest Faculty has included Nick Kepley (Motion Dance Theatre, Ballet Austin, Broadway), Addul Manzano (Charlotte Ballet), and Courtney Elizabeth Stewart (San Francisco Ballet), among others. Each division is limited to 16 dancers, so if you're looking for individual attention, we want to hear from you! Learn more about Summer Intensive 2016.

Special Holiday Ballet Classes Next Week!

BCA will hold special OPEN Holiday ballet classes next week. These are OPEN classes. Anyone who works at the appropriate level can attend. So, they're great for visiting dancers and friends. All two-hour classes are $20 each ($17 for BCA Pre-Pros). Please pay as you go -- just drop your check in the payment box. We strongly recommend all BCA Pre-Pros take these classes. BCA Welcomes Adam Still!

BCA is delighted to welcome Adam Still! Adam will play the Cavalier in this year's Nutcracker. Rehearsing here with our very own Sugar Plum Fairy, Blair Chamberlain.

About Adam Still

Adam Still is originally from Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from the Harid Conservatory where he trained under Svetlana Osiyeva and Olivier Pardina. He received additional training at the Pacific Northwest Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and Jacob’s Pillow summer programs. In 2004 he won the silver medal in the U.S.A. International Youth Ballet Competition and in 2005 received the Rudolph Nureyev Education Fellowship. Adam most recently danced with Ballet Met under the direction of Edwaard Liang and before that was a Soloist with the Colorado Ballet under the direction of Gil Boggs. While at Colorado Ballet Adam danced leading roles such as The Prince in The Nutcracker, Green Man in Lila York’s Celts,  Lead Gypsy in Don Quixote, The Male Duet in Great Galloping Gottschalk, Peter in Peter Pan,  Prince Benno in Swan Lake, Principal Man in Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, and “The Chosen One” in Glen Tetley’s Rite of Spring.

BCA is delighted to announce that Adam Still (Ballet Met, Colorado Ballet) will teach Ballet Master Classes this Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Ballet Conservatory. About Lindsey

Lindsey is a native of the Florida Panhandle, began ballet and modern dance training with the Northwest Florida Ballet Company, under the direction of Todd and Shari Allen. In 2007, she graduated cum laude from the University of South Florida with a BFA in Dance Performance. Lindsey’s dance training includes the Amsterdam Dance Center, Atlanta Ballet, Dance New Amsterdam, Tiffany Mills Company, Mark Morris Dance Company, Nutmeg Ballet, Stephen Petronio Dance Company and Trisha Brown Dance company. While living in New York City, Lindsey performed the works of Monica Bill Barnes, Sean Curran, Rebecca Davis, Yesid Lopez, Laura Peterson, Becky Radway, Oliver and Teri Steele and Saul Ulerio. She is a former dancer of Contemporary Ballet Theatre, The Human Institution, Michiyo and Dancers, Naganuma Dance and STEPS on Broadway’s Repertory Ensemble. Winter of 2013, Lindsey founded Lindsey Kelley Dance. The company has since presented two evening-length productions, “Legend of the Shim Sham” and “Ladle Weiss” at the Asheville Masonic Temple in downtown Asheville.

Pre-Professional Division Auditions Sunday, August 9, 2015

Auditions for BCA's 2015-2016 Pre-Professional Division and Nutcracker 2015 will be held Sunday, August 9, 2015 at BCA Studios, 5 Points Bldg., 6 East Chestnut St., Asheville, NC, 28801.

1:00-2:00 Year 1 Pre-Professional program (rising 5th & 6th grade)

2:30-3:30 Year 2 Pre-Professional program (rising 6th & 7th grade)

4:00-5:00 Year 3 Pre-Professional program (rising 7th & 8th grade)

5:30-6:30 Year 5/7 Pre-Professional program (High school students)

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your audition to sign-in. Audition fee is $15. Girls should bring pointe shoes. These auditions also serve as BCA’s Nutcracker 2015 auditions for Pre-Professionals. BCA's Pre-Professional Division prepares dancers ages 10 and up for careers in the dance profession. They are routinely cast in soloist and corps de ballet roles in our productions of Nutcracker and a Spring Ballet. We encourage all talented young dancers to attend this audition.

All prospective dancers and their parents should be aware of the Pre-Professional division class, rehearsal, and contract requirements prior to the August 9 audition. Returning pre-professionals are required to audition.

If a dancer cannot make the August 9 audition, a make-up audition will be held. However we encourage you to attend the August 9 audition if at all possible since we will begin casting directly following that audition. Call 828-255-5777 for more make-up audition info.

Dancers will be notified of their results by email following their audition. If accepted, they will be required to sign the BCA Pre-Professional Contract, pay their fees, and enroll in their classes.

Ballet Conservatory Of Asheville Summer Classes

Enjoy Summer 2016 With BCA June 6 to August 13!

During summer 2016, BCA offers a wide variety of open ballet classes as well as special "themed" ballet workshops for children. These classes and workshops are ideal for any dancer from beginner to professional. Classes are offered at affordable summer rates and convenient class times. We are also delighted to offer our "Petite Summer Intensive" for dancers ages 8 to10! And of course, BCA's summer intensive offers serious young dancers ages 10 plus a month-long, all-day ballet ballet training intensive. It runs from June 20 to July 16.

Children’s Summer Workshops

All workshops meet Monday to Friday, 9:30 to 12:30, and are for ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 11. Fees are $165 per week ($155 if paid by 4-23-16) plus $10 summer registration fee for new students. Take $15 off for each additional workshop/sibling.

Fees are $80 ($75 if paid by 4-23-16) for the five week session plus $10 summer registration fee for new students. Make-up class any Tuesday or Saturday.

Petite Summer Intensive

Geared toward talented young dancers ages 8 to 10 with a serious interest in ballet. Meets Monday to Friday, 9:30 to 2:00. Fees are $245 plus $10 summer registration fee for new students.

Summer Intensive 2016

June 20 to July 16

Ballet Conservatory of Asheville will hold its ballet intensive June 20 to July 16, 2016. The intensive is geared toward talented dancers ages 10 and up with a serious interest in ballet. Daily classes include intense, professional instruction in ballet, pointe, variations, partnering, men's class, modern, jazz & hip-hop, pilates, and special projects. Non-technique classes include acting for dancers, nutrition, injury prevention, and ballet history. Admission is by audition or DVD. Welcome! We're Ballet Conservatory of Asheville (BCA) and we're delighted you've taken the opportunity to learn more about us. We offer dance programs for children, teens/adults, and pre-professionals. Included are classes in nearly every major dance form, from ballet and pointe to tap, jazz, hip-hop and modern. We welcome all dancers with any level of experience from ages 3 to adult. In addition to our regular school year programs, we also offer summer classes & workshops for all ages and a summer intensive for serious ballet dancers.

Our philosophy is simple: We want our students to gain good technique, learn proper class etiquette, and enjoy the wonderful world of dance. And while we offer classes in all disciplines, we are primarily a ballet school with a strong pre-professional training program.

Our faculty brings rich professional backgrounds and outstanding teaching and education credentials. BCA's leadership team includes Angie Lynn (Director), Wayne Burritt (Ballet Master), and Christopher Lynn (Managing Director). Our professional facilities are located in the 5 Points Building, 6 East Chestnut Street, Asheville, North Carolina.

We produce the Nutcracker, a Spring ballet, and a Recital each year. Our performances are produced at Asheville's Diana Wortham Theatre, widely considered to be one of the finest dance venues in the U.S.

How To Enroll

Enrolling in BCA's programs is easy. First, discover our different programs and what classes you are interested in. Then, download and fill out a registration form. At that point, please feel free to give us a call at 828-255-5777 or drop by our studios at 6 East Chestnut Street, Asheville. We can help you decide which classes are ideal for you, space availability, and fees. We'll then give you the details about your classes, a copy of our policies and procedures, and you'll be all set.
